What is the backbone?
A series of hollow vertebrae to preserve the spinal cord that extends in them. The spine consists of 33 vertebrae – 7 cervical vertebrae. and 12 thoracic vertebrae, and 5 lumbar vertebrae, and 5 sacral vertebrae, And 4 coccygeal vertebrae. The sacral and coccygeal vertebrae fuse together to form a connected bone called the sacrum and coccyx.

Common problems of the spine
Scoliosis curvature of the spine
Slipped disc.
Fractures or deformities of the spine
Chronic back and spine pain.
Spinal tumors
neck pain
Sciatica.
Inflammation and roughness of the vertebrae.

Curvature of the spine (scoliosis).
the definition
It is a twisting and rotating of the back vertebrae around itself. causing a relative deviation of those vertebrae from the upright position, Which leads to warping later. As this warp may appear in the form of the letter S or the letter C, as such cases can be found from childhood to adulthood, If this problem is not treated early, the warp increases and has a strong impact in the long run.

Scoliosis by location:

Thoracic scoliosis: It is an abnormal curvature of the upper part of the spine. so that the curvature is more than 10 degrees, In it, the rib cage puts pressure on the organs in that area, such as the lungs and the heart. Which makes breathing harder.

Lumbar scoliosis: It is an abnormal curvature of the lower part of the spine. As this area works to carry the weight of the upper body, The percentage of bending will increase, causing severe pain as the degree of bending increases.

Scoliosis by type:

Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis
Congenital scoliosis
Neuromuscular scoliosis

Symptoms of scoliosis

A clear curvature and curvature in the back.

The head is not centered in the middle of the body.
Chest asymmetry.
One hip protruding more than the other.
Clothing that does not fit properly on the body.
One shoulder higher than the other.
– The deviation of the injured to one of the limbs usually.
– Imbalance and symmetry in the length of the feet.
Swelling in one side of the chest.
Stretching on one side of the body.
Shortness of breath and chest pain in severe cases.
Back pain in some cases.

Causes of scoliosis

Neuromuscular disorders: These disorders affect muscles and nerves, Such as: Cerebral Palsy, and muscle atrophy.
– Congenital flaw: It occurs as a result of abnormal growth of the spine during pregnancy.
Certain genes: At least one gene is thought to be associated with scoliosis.
Spinal muscular atrophy.
Bifurcated vertebrae.
– dwarfism.
– Osteoporosis.
Obesity.
Spinal infections and tumors.
Arthritis.
– Having a spinal injury.
Unknown cause in childhood and adolescence

Scoliosis treatment

Treatment options for curvature of the spine include the following:

1. Struts

If the person has mild scoliosis, And his bones are still growing, The doctor may prescribe stent therapy.

This treatment will prevent any future curvature but will not cure it. Braces are worn at all times, even during the night hours.

2. Sports

The doctor may advise the injured person to do certain types of sports aimed at restoring the spine to its place.

3. Surgical operations

in acute cases, It is possible to develop scoliosis and curvature of the spine, So the doctor may advise to undergo surgery that reduces this curvature.

natural therapy

Physiotherapy, its role depends on strengthening the patient’s muscles, in the back or abdomen, And prolong it and maintain the softness of the joints and ligaments so as not to become stiff.

There are 7 internationally accredited schools for curvature treatment, and the Egyptian Center for Physiotherapy has accredited the two largest schools, the German Schroth School and the Italian Scientific Institute School ISICO.

German Schroth School: The katharina schroth technique for scoliosis is a breathing exercise that teaches the patient how to stay in the correct position. It is the straightening position and avoiding the unconscious wrong bending position. So that the patient breathes in the side of the thoracic spine parallel to the side of the bend and pressure on the bend inward in the direction of the straightening of the spine so that the muscles of the back and abdomen are strengthened and the breathing process improves, which helps to elongate and straighten the spine and relieve the prominent protrusion in the back caused by the curvature of the spine. In addition, a brace or a dorsal belt for lateral bending is also worn to increase the effectiveness of the treatment.
– Exercises of the Italian Scientific Institute of the Spine Institute ISICO:

It is a scientific school based on specific forms of self-correction that the patient himself performs after rehabilitating him and teaching him specific exercises to perform as part of his daily activity. These exercises are combined with other exercises such as balance and motor neuron control exercises to achieve maximum benefit.
This school also includes mental behavioral methods that suit the patient and his physical needs.
One of the goals of this school is to avoid using braces until the spine is fully developed properly.
In the case of using braces previously, exercises are prescribed to avoid the negative effects of braces and work to help the spine to stabilize after stopping the use of braces.
This school adopts a scientific system to design appropriate therapeutic exercises for each patient according to his condition and degree of distortion.
The patient undergoes a session between one and three months in the treatment institution. Then the patient follows the treatment with a physiotherapist.

stretching exercises

Breathing exercises
Balance exercises
Yoga exercises
Pilates is a method of exercise consisting of low-impact movements for endurance, muscle strength and flexibility.

Paragraph roughness | spondylosis

the definition

Osteoarthritis is a term that describes the erosion of the cartilage of the spine, which is one of the conditions of arthritis. Most of these changes are part of the aging process. Most cases may not show any symptoms and when they do appear they are signs of arthritis and can be noticed during x-ray imaging, The common case of Osteoarthritis affects the vertebral body and the openings of the nerve roots.

Causes of roughness of the vertebrae

strenuous jobs.

Doing high impact sports.

Previous injury to the neck or back.

smoking.

getting old.

Symptoms of vertebrae roughness

Localized stiffness or pain in a specific area.

Back or neck pain.

Inability to roll or bend the neck.

Exacerbation of pain when doing a physical activity or staying in the same position for long periods.

Pain in the morning and at the end of the day.

general weakness

A defect in walking normally.

Loss of balance.

Sensory changes in the hands and feet.

Loss of bladder or bowel control.

Treating the roughness of the vertebrae

pharmaceutical, Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, which can relieve pain.

self care, Avoid strenuous activities and positions that cause pain and worsen the condition.

Surgeries and injections.

Doing exercise
natural therapy, and that is done by :

Heat and cold therapy: By using hot and cold compresses to reduce lower back pain. and neck.
the physical treatment: Physical therapy strengthens and stretches the back muscles. Which causes alleviation of various symptoms.
Electrical nerve stimulation on the skin: To relieve the pain associated with the roughness of the vertebrae.
Manual therapy: Which helps relieve pain and stiffness.
Vertebrae tension device to reduce pressure
Laser to reduce pain
